Franco The Dick-Taker act was born from QUEEROLÉ! short film by Patricia Langa.

This act is a satirical dance piece about Francisco Franco, Spanish dictator from 1939 to 1975. Patricia used Flamenco, contemporary dance, and mime to portray Franco both as the malevolent character that he was, and the terrible effect he had on Flamenco itself. He was the reason why Flamenco dance became the symbol of Spain (to attract tourism) and why the roles in it became so binary, when previously Flamenco had been a much more fluid form, allowing for a non-prescriptive interplay between the masculine and the feminine. 

From January 2024 Patricia will be developing and extending this act, having been awarded a residency at Stanley Arts. Sean Alexander Murray will be appearing as guest artist, taking the role of ‘A Hell of a Dress’, which represents the world of Flamenco embodied in the shape of a ‘dress demon’ coming from hell to claim Franco’s soul as punishment for his many grievous sins.
