EXCELLENT TOGETHER

Excellent Together is a joint venture which has evolved between Corali Dance Company and Thick & Tight. It is a research project where individual dance artists from Corali are connected to a dance artist from Thick & Tight’s networks. Each dancer from Corali has a learning disability and has lived experience of being marginalised from society. The artists they are paired with all align with or ally the queer-focused work that Thick & Tight produce.

Patricia Langa and Jackie Ryan were paired together to create a duet called ‘Oye como va’ full of rhythm and glamour set to the Cuban beats of Tito Puente. They presented their duet at Duckie's Posh Clubs in Hackney, Elephant & Castle, Brighton and the International Day of Persons with Disability, at the Royal Opera House and . They called themselves THE RHYTHMICS.

The duo still perform, and they are now applying for separate funding to continue their work together.

The Royal Opera House commissioned Thick & Tight to make work for a Pride event for children in 2022, as part of their Family Sunday programme.

Thick and Tight put out a call to staff at the Royal Opera House, asking if anyone would be willing to be interviewed about what Pride means to them.

They edited the interviews together to create a woven tapestry of sound, revealing experiences and attitudes of people from the ROH’s LGBTQ+ community. The words were interpreted by 4 dancers; Patricia Langa, DJ Hassan, Eleanor Perry and Daniel-Hay-Gordon.

They made this work with the hope that it encourages more open conversation and understanding within the Royal Opera House and among their audiences.
